Passaic County Habitat for Humanity Honors the Legacy of Congressman William “Bill” Pascrell Jr.

Passaic County Habitat for Humanity is deeply saddened by the passing of Congressman William “Bill” Pascrell Jr., a dedicated public servant and unwavering supporter of our mission. Congressman Pascrell, who passed away at the age of 87 on August 21, 2024, was a champion for the Paterson community and a staunch advocate for affordable housing and community development.

Born and raised in Paterson, Congressman Pascrell’s commitment to his hometown was evident throughout his remarkable career in public service. From his tenure as Mayor of Paterson, and later as a U.S. Representative, he consistently worked to improve the lives of his constituents and ensure that everyone had access to safe, stable, and affordable housing.

Congressman Pascrell’s legacy with Passaic County Habitat for Humanity is one of partnership and shared values. Beginning in 1997 Congressman Pascrell served as the honorary chair of the Passaic County Habitat Advisory Committee and remained a member for years to come.  In 1998, Congressman Pascrell and Senator Frank Lautenburg worked together on "House that Congress Built".  Congressman Pascrell's dedication to community revitalization, public safety, and environmental protection aligned with our mission to build homes, communities, and hope.  We looked forward to his participation in our house dedications, where he was always ready with welcoming and encouraging words for new homeowners. He was instrumental in supporting key initiatives that expanded our ability to serve families in need across Passaic County.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who were touched by his life and work. Congressman Pascrell’s contributions to Greater Paterson region and the nation will not be forgotten.
